🧵#iOS WebXR
Yeah, them hiring Ada and letting her continue leading the W3C WebXR group is going in a good direction. They've been fixing many things in Safari and preparing for WebXR, but no public info on availability and "if ever". Could well be that they simply decide to only ever support whatever glasses they're cooking as external devices - no idea!
That being said, regarding the specific question she asked - for A-Frame I think it actually doesn't work out of the box in the old WebXR Viewer, but Needle Engine AR actually does
We work around a few quirks in their WebXR implementation but otherwise things "just work"
It's almost tangible due to her sharing an AR experience that can't even be used on the built in browsers of the phones at the company she works at. It would be bleak if they limited WebXR to glasses only just to upsell hardware.. I wouldn't be surprised
Good to hear most things just work, should be the way it goes on the web imo!
Mh, for some context: she was at Samsung before and only a few weeks ago switched to Apple, that message you shared is from 2021
I got excited and forgot to look at the date 🥵 been a lot of twitter rallying for iOS webXR i saw her commented in
Definitely, that's why it's a good sign she's with Apple now 🙂
